You Ask - I Answer
What techniques do you use?
I specialize in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness oriented therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These therapies differ from other forms of psychological therapy in several ways. First, they are active, skill oriented therapies, meaning that you and I will work toward reducing your symptoms by teaching you or your child practical skills. These therapies are also designed to be time-limited rather than ongoing like some other forms of therapy.
My work focuses on teaching new skills and behaviors, helping you practice those skills in a variety of situations, learning healthier ways of coping with stressful situations, increasing awareness of the way you think in critical situations, and helping you make changes in your thinking pattern.
I believe that our therapeutic relationship is the key to helping you make lasting changes. Building a sense of trust, an atmosphere of collaboration, and a genuine feeling of connection in our work together is my ultimate goal. I will ask you for frequent feedback about how you are feeling about our work and will invite you to collaborate with me to figure out what approaches are best for you or your child.
How much do you charge and do you
accept insurance?
While I do not participate with insurance, I can provide you with receipts that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement of our sessions through out of network benefits. I can give you the billing codes in advance of our first session so that you can check with your insurance company about what the reimbursement rates would be.
I also offer a sliding scale for payment that depends on your income. So, your fee would range between $250 per session and $300 per session. Please feel free to call or email to find out what your fee would be.
How long does each therapy session last?
Sessions are 45-50 minutes. When working with children, I usually spend some of that time with parents and some of it with the child. Our first session is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes so that I can gather important information and help you identify goals that we will work on toghether.
